Why Gel Filtration?
EdgeBio’s gel filtration based DTR products (Optima and Performa) utilize a specific size-exclusion matrix that effectively captures smaller molecules—such as unincorporated dyes, salts, and dNTPs—while allowing the larger DNA sequencing products to pass through.

Gel filtration (Optima™ and Performa®) uses size-exclusion chromatography to trap impurities in a resin, allowing the purified DNA to pass through. Magnetic beads (MagDTR™ and ADS™) bind the DNA to a bead surface while contaminants are washed away. Gel filtration is generally faster for manual workflows, while beads are ideal for automated, high-throughput systems.
Performa® DTR is the original industry standard for consistent, high-quality results. Optima™ DTR uses a modernized resin that provides the same high-resolution sequencing (>800 bp reads) but at a more cost-effective price point. Both use a simple 3-step, 15-minute protocol.
Yes. All listed products—from the SupreDye™ XT Kit to our ADS™ Cleaning Beads—are specifically optimized to remove unincorporated dye terminators. This prevents the "blobs" that typically obscure the first 50–100 bases of a sequencing read, ensuring clean data from the very start of the sequence.
Absolutely. All of our DTR solutions are fully compatible with BigDye® (v3.1 and v1.1) as well as the SupreDye™ cycle sequencing kits. They are designed to be "drop-in" replacements for your existing cleanup methods without requiring protocol adjustments.
For maximum convenience, many of our products, including Optima™ and Performa® plates and cartridges, are stable at room temperature for up to 4 weeks. For long-term storage, we recommend 4C to maintain optimal resin hydration and performance.
It depends on the kit. While gel filtration and bead methods usually require a resuspension step, the SupreDye™ XT Purification Kit allows for a streamlined workflow where purified samples can often be loaded directly onto the capillary electrophoresis instrument, saving significant time.
